The Elkader Community

There are three state highways that lead into Elkader,  State Highway 13 which runs North and South, Highway 128 that comes in from the East and Highway 56 which comes into Elkader from the West. There are also two county paved roads that connect Elkader with the other surrounding communities.

Elkader is the Clayton County seat and has a highly regarded hospital, has excellent educational facilities including the main office of the Keystone Area Education Agency.  Elkader also has many recreational activities in and around the community and has great historical presence with many of the old building architecture from the late 1800s and other historical structures in and around the area. There are nine historical sites on the National Registry in and around Elkader click here for more information.

Elkader is a beautiful little northeast Iowa town nestled in a rolling valley aside of the Turkey River in Clayton County. The last glaciers of the Ice Age didn't flatten the landscape so the region is hilly with woodlands and rich farmland.

There are approximately 1600 people who live here and call Elkader their home. There are unending beautiful sites and scenery in Elkader and many thriving businesses here and the surrounding areas.
